We sell clothes. We love clothes. After all, the way you dress is the way you present yourself to the world every single day. And if we want to be recognized as the individuals we are, that's important.
Since Plain Clothes opened for business in 1986, we've learned a lot about clothes, how they are constructed, the incredible fabrics they can be made of, the creative and dedicated people who design and make them, the niceties of fit, the vagaries of fashion-- you name it.
In the process we've become positively obsessed with finding clothes that are special, exceptional, singular, particular or specific-- in short, for one reason or another, sui generis-- just like our customers, the people who will be wearing them.
We still revel in the glamorous styles of the 1920s and 1930s just as we did the day Plain Clothes first opened, but we're equally interested in fabrics and styles that work for the way we live today, hands-on production methods, authentic products, and designers who believe that small can be good and want to resurrect our pride in the Made in America label.
If you think like we do, here's your chance to add some special and unusual items to your wardrobe, pieces that will reflect your unique personality, not some silly list of mass produced must-haves.
One caveat, though. Since our products are made by small manufacturers, designers, craftsmen and artists, we do not have large inventories of any item. Some items may be available on an ongoing basis, others may be offered only once and sell out quickly. We cannot guarantee availability, so buy it when you see it.
